Joanette Brookes-George is the principal consultant at Unmute Yourself, Inc., bringing a profound blend of personal resilience and professional expertise to her work. As a survivor of child sexual assault, teen dating violence, gang-related illicit behavior, rape, date rape, human trafficking, multiple instances of being held at gunpoint, and domestic violence, Joanette channels her lived experiences into a passionate commitment to social justice and community empowerment. Her journey from victim to victor has profoundly shaped her professional and educational pursuits. Joanette's firsthand encounters with violence and trauma give her a unique and empathetic perspective, allowing her to connect deeply with those she serves and advocate effectively for systemic change. Her work with Unmute Yourself, Inc. is a direct extension of her lived experiences and her dedication to addressing the root causes of violence and trauma. Since 2010, Joanette has worked with international NGOs and conducted extensive research on Community Gun Violence, Sexual Violence, Human Trafficking, and Cyber Security, both locally and internationally. Her deep understanding of these issues, informed by her personal journey, allows her to provide valuable insights and develop innovative solutions to complex social problems. Joanette's research focuses on violence, victimology, trauma, resilience, grit, and their roles in the formation of emotional intelligence.
